COMPASS CONSULTING SURVEYORS
DIRECTION IN DEVELOPMENT
Eric Smith
Eric grew up on a farm at Yeoval, south of Dubbo. Eric has had a passion for surveying since 1989, when he experienced surveying with local Wellington surveyor, Neil Doherty.
He graduated from the University of Newcastle in 1998 and after gaining experience in different locations across the country, has settled in the Central West. Eric has been a small business owner and company director since 2005, when he joined his former mentor, Neil Doherty, to form Doherty Smith and Associates, consulting surveyors. Eric has enjoyed teaming up with Pat Clarkstone to form Compass Consulting Surveyors in 2021.
Eric has a wide range of experience, from rural and suburban subdivision and design to UAV (drone) surveys for asset management and terrain modelling. He has a knack for attracting some of the most interesting projects, including an encroachment by a wind turbine over an adjoining neighbour’s property, survey and design for a rifle range, preparing a report in relation to tyre smoke from burnout competitions and it’s potential impact on adjoining development, and measuring inside the Wellington Caves. Eric’s articles, published on the Compass Consulting Surveyors blog, are used by a wide range of people seeking plain-English explanations of complex surveying and planning matters.
He is an amateur photographer, with his location photos bringing real world substance to your development proposals as well as colour to our website. Eric is a past president of the NSW Country Surveyors Association, and is a current examiner for the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information, NSW.
